Hello All:

Welcome to the 2014-15 speech season. This week, I will meet with full categories, so that I know what everyone is planning for the season. Prose is going to take the Monday time slot, so Philip and Shreya can duke it out for the times on Wednesday.

Category Leaders: Please be sure that your category brings to the meeting scripts and notes about what you will be doing with this script. I should not hear “I don’t have a script yet” (unless you are in radio!!! But then the novices should at least have books/binders/folders of what they will be using this season.)

Just a reminder that our next meeting will be after school on Monday, Oct. 20.

Once again, everyone on the team should attend!

See you then 🙂

Important Things!

To everyone who missed today’s meeting, here’s the big information you need:

1) Congrats on making the team! We’re so excited! If you realize you can’t handle the commitment, please talk to a coach ASAP.

2) You should all have scripts (acting/reading) or speech topics/outlines (writing) by the end of this week. By the end of next week, you should be memorized (acting/reading) or have a draft written (writing).

3) There will be no team meeting next week. We’ll meet again as a group after school on Monday, Oct. 20.

4) Important upcoming dates!

  • Sat. Oct. 25, 12:00-3:00p Mock Tournament!
  • Tues. Oct. 28, 6:00-7:00p Parent information night!
  • Sat. Nov. 1, ALL DAY! First Tournament!

5) Make sure you talk to your category leader about when you’re meeting as a group and when you have your individual rehearsals!

6) If you didn’t give us your forms/check, please get them to Coach La Scola ASAP.

The team has been posted here!

Congratulations to everyone who made it and many thanks to the more-than-120-ish of you who tried out. It’s never easy choosing from so many of you, and if you didn’t make it, we hope you will consider trying out again next year.

To those who made it, four things:

1) Our first meeting is Monday afternoon at 2:45p in D219. This meeting is mandatory and will last about an hour — if there are any problems with attending, you *must* contact Mr. Mehta and your Category Leader.

2) We need to make sure you are registered on this website so you can eventually sign up for rehearsal times. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post using your real name and your regular email address. (You don’t need to fill in the website line.) Just leave the comment “Save the drama for the llama!” and I’ll approve you ASAP.

3) You and your parents must read this packet, sign the appropriate forms, and bring the Activity Fee check to the Monday meeting!

4) If you are a Category Leader, please make plans to stay after the Monday meeting for a few minutes!

Thanks for your cooperation and congratulations to everyone!

For anyone interested in learning more about Speech Team and auditioning for it, here are the dates you need to know!

If you’re new to the team, you should come to ONE of the following informational meetings!

2:45p, Monday, September 22, in the Main Campus LMC

2:45p, Tuesday, September 23, in the Gold Campus Forum Room

Auditions will take place Wednesday, Oct. 1 (for Varsity members, starting at 3:00p) and Thursday, Oct. 2 (for newcomers, starting at 2:45p) in D219. Varsity team members should come in with at least one minute of a prepared speech in their event. Newcomers don’t need to prepare anything. We’ll have scripts ready for you to use.

You will need to read the audition packet and fill out The Form! All of that information can be found here. (Updated 9/10/14)

As always, contact Coach Mehta if you have any questions.

For anyone interested in attending the Neuqua Valley Speech Team Summer Camp, you can download the application here!

The camp is for current team members, incoming freshmen, and anyone else interested in learning more about public speaking.

A few things to note:

  • The camp will take place August 4th-8th from 8:00-11:00a
  • The activities at camp will change from the past. We’re still working out the exact details, but rest assured these changes will benefit everybody!
  • The cost is $175 and all checks should be made out to Wildcat Speech.
  • If you are interested in attending, please let me know ahead of time so I can get the appropriate amount of materials.

For all seniors who have been on the team for at least three years, you can download the application for the David Scheidecker Memorial Scholarship here!

It will be due Wed, April 23rd. Please turn it in to Mr. Mehta in D200 by the end of the day.

End of the Season Video

Thanks to Rebekah for putting this together and our friends at Wheaton Warrenville South for playing along! 🙂
