Neuqua Valley Speech Team

Hello All:

First week for Varsity is under our belts; last time novices are only with other novices has ended…now it’s really speech time. It’s another Parent/Teacher Conference week, on Monday this time, so that limits times you can practice.

Also, let’s acknowledge the time slot taken and conclude as close to the end time you signed up for, otherwise everyone else it behind and we all have other obligations that must be respected.

This week, for Prose, pieces should be cut and 90% memorized. I should not hear “I want to change my script” or “I want to change my piece” because of one week out with that piece. Change your piece after you have actually performed the piece a few times, such as in December, at the NV Invite.

For OO, you should be done with your writing and about 90% memorized…you need to be done with your research, and have something that seems like a speech, following proper OO formatting.

For Radio, record yourself reading through an old script, so we can listen together.

Finally, starting next week, ALL PROSE AND OO PEOPLE WILL NEED TO TAPE THEMSELVES! That’s right; you will start taping yourself so we can watch what you’re doing well (and we can “see” if we “see” the same issues!)

Wheaton North: We should be home around 6:30p.

Downers Grove South: We should be home around 3:30p. (There are no final rounds.)

Extemp and Radio?

Wheaton North: ES will prep twice at the tournament (and again for finals). RS will prep at home the day before. There is Radio prep for finals, so bring materials!

Downers Grove South: ES will prep three times at the tournament. RS will prep at home the day before.

What time should you be at Neuqua?

Wheaton North: Bus leaves at 6:30a. Be there early.

Downers Grove South: Bus leaves at 6:30a. Be there early.

Mr. Pontarelli and I will be at the Freshman Center running our classic College Improv War and Workshop. Categories of DI, DDA, HDA, HI, and OC are required to attend.  The workshop is from 3:00pm to about 6:15/6:30pm.  Of course, all Speech team members are welcome to come!  It’s certainly a great team building experience. Please register on nvhstheatre.com and admission is $10.  Please ask your category leaders for more information.  You may also ask Mr. Pontarelli and I for further details.
