ATTENTION:

This week we will be meeting on Monday to go over our material. I apologize for being unavailable last week, but I am back now and ready to see how the first tournament went!

As previously discussed my expectations are that the pieces are fully memorized and blocked out. I have some catching up to do with you all so we will be working fast.

This is who I will need to see:

4:00-4:25 Shreya Sridhara (POE)

4:28-5:05 Sydney and Chloe (DDA)

5:05-5:33 Alex Warner (POE)

5:35-6:05 Apurva and Bryson (DDA)

Thank you all very much!

Please make sure to email me for any further questions and make sure to CC the category leader.

First week under our belts and the fun continues this week for all team members.

As was the case last week, no rehearsals can take place in the building on Wednesday, Nov. 11 (that will be the final night of parent/teacher conferences. You can obviously practice at any other location though!!)

Radio team — if this is a “prep at home” meet, you should be using stories that are NO MORE than one week old (that requirement goes for novices as well). I want to hear a full broadcast from all of you.

Impromptu — we will be practicing with words this week. If you feel quotes are your weak point, then tell me and you can practice with quotes instead. Novices can rehearse with whatever their critiques suggested were areas to improve.

Finally, I am trying very hard to stay on schedule, which means I want to try and wrap things up at the 25 minute mark of our rehearsal time to provide you with this week’s “takeaway advice” — we all have goals for the season and this is mine :O)

Who I need to see:
Surbhi (1)
Brody (1)
Roshni (1)
Janelle (1)
Hailey (1)

11/7 Tournament Info

Here is the information you need for Saturday’s tournament at Downers Grove North!

Who’s going?

The tentative roster can be found here. Please let me know if there are any problems!

When will it end?

We should be home around 6:30p.

Extemp and Radio?

Extemp will prep twice at the tournament and once for finals.

Radio will prep at home the day before.

What time should you be at Neuqua?

Bus leaves at 6:30a. Be there early!

ATTENTION:

This week we will be meeting on Tuesday to go over our material. I will be out of town on Monday or else we would be meeting both days.

As previously discussed my expectations are that the pieces are fully memorized and blocked out. If you need a prompter any later than this upcoming Tuesday it is going to be impossible to move forward with your piece. Our time together is precious and we shall not waste it.

Due to the upcoming visit to DGN, those who are competing will have first priority; otherwise you will be working amongst yourselves and via mine and the category leaders instructions. With that being said here is who I need to see:

3:45-4:25 Shreya Sridhara (POE)

4:30-5:10 Sydney and Chloe (DDA)

5:15-5:45 Alex Warner (POE)

5:45-6:15 Apurva and Bryson (DDA)

Thank you all very much!

Please make sure to email me for any further questions and make sure to CC the category leader.

ATTENTION –
There is a full team meeting Monday in the Speech room, located in the D-wing at Main. Please be on time and attentive to what your captains and coaches are saying.

It was exciting to see the new faces and hear the new Impromptu and Radio speakers perform last week. Well done, category leaders (Surbhi and Hailey) and team members for helping prepare the novices the NV Speech way!

This week, since none of the varsity members (except Brody) are performing at DGN, I am going to combine some rehearsal times. We will meet in D205.

Also, I know that Mehta has posted this, but please remember if you are planning on rehearsing on Thursday, Nov. 5, you must do so out of school as it is Parent/Teacher conference night. Also, on Friday, Nov. 6, you cannot get into the building until 3:00 for the same reason.

Good Morning and Hello!

My name is Mr. El-Kareh (El-CAR-REE) and I am your new Associate Speech Coach for this 2015-2016 Season! I will be handling the DDA and POE categories  and I cannot wait to get started with you all. I have a terrific first day planned for us tomorrow that will include time for us to handle introductions in person.

With that being said… lets get started. First a quick reminder for you all to bring your pieces as well as a hard copy for me to look at and mark up; I have no idea what your pieces are at this point so please help a guy out will ya? I will of course send out my thoughts in regards to your selections as soon as I have had ample time to give them a once over. Also, for those in DDA please come prepared to discuss your pieces with me… think of it as a pitch! I am not only looking for your take on it as individuals/partners, but how you believe the piece will continue to challenge you as the season moves along. For those of you in POE please be ready to hand me a list of poets that speak to you on a personal level; if you do not have any yet that is fine too! Just come ready to discuss what compels you to use the words of another to piece together an often delicate story.

MONDAY will be my only day during the week in which I will be seeing students and tomorrow is an ALL CALL… meaning that all of DDA and POE must be present during the FOLLOWING call times. If for some reason you cannot be there please contact you category leader and they will notify me via email. The schedule is as follows…

Schedule:

DDA: 4:00-4:40

POE: 4:45-5:15

Thank you all!

P.S: I will be out of town on November 2nd so I will adjust the schedule for the following week!

TJE

Hello-Hello-Hello…

…and welcome to the “official” official start to the 2015-16 speech season. As you already know, I will be coaching Radio and Impromptu categories this season.

For this week, I am looking to meet with the entire category to assess what has been happening since the team was selected and arrange scheduling for the season. With that said, I am also the Tuesday afternoon speech coach this season (or at least until January, after Baby Mehta’s arrival and Coach Mehta returns). If Varsity Radio or Impromptu members have Tuesday afternoon conflicts, you will need to rearrange that effective starting the week of Nov. 2 as Tuesday afternoons will be my only coaching day. Under extreme circumstances that may be tweaked, but this is the plan for the season I intend to follow — a Tuesday coaching schedule 99% of the time.

For this week, Radio team will meet at 3:30 in Conference Room D205 on Monday, 10/26; Impromptu team will meet at 3:30 in Conference Room D205 on Tuesday, 10/27. If the two categories would like to switch, that is fine by me.

Surbhi and Hailey — I need to hear and watch the novice members perform a radio broadcast as well as have the Impromptu speakers prep a topic and perform during this week’s rehearsals.

See you next week.

Monday
3:30-4:30-ish – Radio team

Tuesday
3:30-4:30-ish – Impromptu team

Just a reminder that we will have a team meeting after school on Monday, Oct. 26! Even though there is a staff meeting for teachers that afternoon, we will still begin at 2:45p.

Everyone should be there! We have a lot to discuss with a mock tournament and real tournament on the horizon…

Also, most Varsity members will be starting up their coaching sessions next week. Make sure you’re in touch with your coach and signing up for rehearsal times on Sunday morning at 10:00a.
