For anyone interested in attending the Neuqua Valley Speech Team Summer Camp, all the information you need is below!

The camp is for current team members, incoming freshmen, and anyone else in high school interested in learning more about public speaking.

Important things to note:

  • The camp will take place August 1-5 from 8:00-11:00a each day
  • We will have separate tracks for new and returning campers so that everyone is working on the skills that will most benefit them
  • The cost is $175 and all checks should be made out to Wildcat Speech. (Students will bring the check to Camp on the first day.)
  • Your participation in this Summer Camp does not automatically guarantee you a spot on the 2016-17 Neuqua Valley Speech Team. It will, however, make you a better public speaker, and that is a skill you’ll be able to use on and off the team!

If you are interested in attending, please fill out this form as soon as possible! (We’ll be in touch with you later this summer with more details.)

If you have any other questions, let Coach Mehta know.

Can’t wait to see you in the fall!

If any of you are interested, there are auditions to be the anchors of a new Neuqua TV show highlight students’ accomplishments — seems like an ideal position for a lot of Speechies! 🙂

Details are right here. Auditions take place May 10-11. Good luck!

For all seniors who have been on the team for at least three years, you can download the application for the David Scheidecker Memorial Scholarship here!

It will be due Monday, April 18th. Please turn it in to Coach La Scola in B200 by the end of the day.

The Video from Banquet

We’ll post more information on Neuqua’s speech camp soon, but for now, Akshay has a round-up of the various camps offered by Illinois colleges. No one is obligated to go to any of them, but they will certainly help you improve your skills if you’re interested!

Bradley University Summer Forensics Institute: This is a more expensive option but also offers much more specialized training in one category over a two-week period of time. Many returning team members have experience here. Ask them for more information! The camp runs July 10 – 23 (or you can go for a week).

Illinois State University: The only current members of our team who have been to ISU’s camp are Jonathan K. (in Extemp) and Virginia G. (in DI) — feel free to ask them questions about it. The camp runs July 17 – 29 (or you can go for a week). Note that this camp and Bradley’s camp overlap, so you could NOT do both unless you’re some sort of wizard.

Northern Illinois University’s Speech Camp: While Neuqua hasn’t had students attend this camp, our friends from Metea say that it’s a really strong (and cheaper) option. If you’re interested, the captains can put you in touch with Metea students who have attended. This camp runs June 19 – 24 and does not overlap with any of the other camps, so you could technically go to this camp and one of the others (if you really wanted to).

If you are interested in applying for Team captain, you must fill out this form and turn it in to La Scola (in B100) by Monday, March 7th. (Interviews will take place on March 17th.)

Only current sophomores and juniors are allowed to apply.

The Speech Banquet will take place at Tamarack Golf Club on Wednesday, March 23 starting at 5:30p (usually ending around 8:30p).

Your family and friends are invited to join us, too!

The cost is $14/person (to cover dinner) and all checks should be made out to “Wildcat Speech.”

Please give all checks to La Scola (in B100 at Main) by Monday, March 7th.

Here are the videos from the Sectional run-through. These videos are only for your personal use, to send to family and friends. They are not listed in the YouTube directory and you can only watch them if you have the links.

I ask that you don’t submit them to other “speech” websites. (You know what I mean…)

Thanks!
