11/3 Tournament Info

Here is the information you need for Saturday’s tournament at Downers Grove North!

Who’s going?

The tentative roster can be found here. Please let me know if there are any problems!

When will it end?

We should be home around 6:30p.

Extemp and Radio?

Extemp will prep twice at the tournament (with 7-minute speeches!) and once for finals.

Radio will prep at home the day before.

What time should you be at Neuqua?

Bus leaves at 6:30a. Be there early!

The Parent Night event will take place from 7:00 – 8:00p in C202 (the Main Building’s Forum Room).

Students are welcome to come, too (though they probably know most of the information by now).

See you then!

Rehearsals with Mehta

If you’re signing up for a rehearsal with Mehta, do it here.

It’s Saturday, Oct. 27 from 8:00a – 11:00a in the B-Wing.

Dress up as you would at a Speech tournament!

Be prepared to deliver your piece!

1) We need your health forms if we don’t have them already! Please turn in to the Speech mailbox at the Main building ASAP!

2) Be sure to join the emergency phone list by texting “@h6eh86” to the number 81010 and saying you’re a student.

3) Get in touch with your category leaders for rehearsal dates/times!

4) Important upcoming dates:

10/22, Monday, Next Team Meeting
10/27, Saturday, Mock Tournament for Novices at Birkett Center (Time TBA)
10/30, Tuesday, Novice Parent Night at 7:00p
11/3, Saturday, First tournament

The team has been posted here!

Congratulations to everyone who made it and many thanks to the nearly 140 of you who tried out. It’s never easy choosing from so many of you (especially when there’s a limit to how many we can take), and if you didn’t make it, we hope you will consider trying out again next year. We unfortunately had to make a lot of difficult cuts!

To those who made it, four things:

1) The first full team meeting is Tuesday afternoon at 2:45p in D219. This meeting is mandatory and will last until 4:00p — if there are any problems with attending, you *must* contact Mr. Mehta and your Category Leader(s).

2) All Category Leaders will meet on Monday afternoon at 2:45p in D219.

3) We need to make sure you are registered on this website so you can eventually sign up for rehearsal times. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post using your name and your email address. (You don’t need to fill in the website line.) Just say “Save the drama for the llama” and I’ll approve you ASAP.

4) You and your parents must read this packet, sign the appropriate forms, and pay the Activity Fee! You will not be allowed to enter the room on Tuesday without these items.

Thanks for your cooperation and congratulations to everyone!

If you’re new to the team, you should come to ONE of the following informational meetings!

2:30p, Monday, September 10, in the Main Campus LMC

2:30p, Tuesday, September 11, in the Birkett Center Forum Room

Auditions will take place for Varsity members on Wednesday, Sep. 12 (starting at 3:00p) in D219.

Auditions will take place for New members on Wednesday, Sep. 12 (starting at 5:00p) or Thursday, Sep. 13 (starting at 2:45p) in D219. All new members can sign up for audition slots right here.

Everyone will need to read the audition packet and fill out The Form! All of that information can be found here.

If you’re wondering what you may be reading during auditions, that packet can be found right here. (You don’t need to memorize this. We’re only posting this so you’re not surprised at auditions!)

We will post the new team members on this site by Friday night, Sep. 14.

If you’re unable to make it to the audition date, or you have any other questions, please contact Coach Mehta.

For anyone interested in attending the Neuqua Valley Speech Team Summer Camp, all the information you need is below!

The camp is for current team members, incoming freshmen, and anyone else in high school interested in learning more about public speaking.

Important things to note:

  • The camp will take place August 6-10 from 8:00-11:00a each day
  • We will have separate tracks for new and returning campers so that everyone is working on the skills that will most benefit them
  • The cost is $175 and all checks should be made out to Wildcat Speech. (Students will bring the check to Camp on the first day.)
  • Your participation in this Summer Camp does not automatically guarantee you a spot on the 2018-19 Neuqua Valley Speech Team. It will, however, make you a better public speaker, and that is a skill you’ll be able to use on and off the team!

If you are interested in attending, please fill out this form as soon as possible! (We’ll be in touch with you later this summer with more details.) (If you are reading this post, it’s not too late to sign up!)

If you have any other questions, let Coach Mehta know.

Can’t wait to see you in the fall!

The Video from Banquet

If you are interested in applying for Team captain, you must fill out this form and turn it in to La Scola (in B100) by Monday, Feb 26th.

Only current sophomores and juniors are allowed to apply.

The Speech Banquet will take place at Tamarack Golf Club on Thursday, March 8th starting at 5:30p (ending around 8:30p). We know some people may have conflicts but that’s unavoidable after the season ends. We hope you can make it!

Your family and friends are invited to join us, too!

The cost is $14/person (to cover dinner) and all checks should be made out to “Wildcat Speech.”

Please give all checks to La Scola (in B100 at Main) by Monday, March 5th.

For all seniors who have been on the team for at least three years, you can download the application for the David Scheidecker Memorial Scholarship here!

It will be due Monday, April 2nd. Please turn it in to Coach La Scola in B100 by the end of the day.
